Delivery Techniques
Delivery Techniques
Practising. Always remember what you want your audience to take from your speech.
a)Think about your content (is it funny or serious?) and how this will affect the way you use your voice and body. Identify specific sections in the text of your presentation where you could use appropriate delivery techniques.
b) The techniques you should consider are:
·varying your volume, tone or pace to stress a point or to gain or hold attention
·pause for dramatic effect or emphasis
·eye contact to engage and hold your audience’s attention
·gesture, movement and facial expression that support and emphasise your content
·stance that is appropriate for a speaker in a formal situation
TO PERSUADE YOUR AUDIENCE TO YOUR POINT OF VIEW YOU WILL NEED TO DO CERTAIN THINGS.
APART FROM HAVING CAREFULLY CONSTRUCTED CONTENT WHICH WE EXPLORED IN OUR PREVIOUS LESSON YOU WILL NEED TO CONDUCT YOURSELF IN A PARTICULAR WAY.
NOTE DOWN THE FOLLOWING DELIVERY POINTS.
EYE CONTACT.
TRY TO INCLUDE ALL THE AUDIENCE.
IF YOU DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT YOUR MESSAGE WILL NOT BE AS EFFECTIVE AS IT COULD BE.
VOICE.
USE A VOICE WHICH IS LOUD ENOUGH TO BE HEARD, BUT DO NOT SHOUT OR YELL.
BE SURE TO SPEAK CLEARLY SO THAT THE AUDIENCE CAN UNDERSTAND YOU.
SPEAK SLOW ENOUGH THAT YOU CAN BE UNDERSTOOD (I.E. DO NOT TALK TO FAST) BUT NOT SO SLOW THAT PEOPLE FALL ASLEEP.
POSTURE
STAND UP STRAIGHT
DO NOT SLOUCH OR HUNCH YOUR SHOULDERS.
STANDING UP STRAIGHT PORTRAYS AN AIR OF CONFIDENCE AND IS MORE CONVINCING THAN IF YOU SLOUCH AND TALK TO THE FLOOR!
GESTURES
USE NATURAL HAND AND BODY MOVEMENTS TO CONVEY A RELAXED AND CONFIDENT MANNER.
